"Cheryl is very conscientious and has shown good perseverance with the project, despite the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 situation. She has worked well remotely and kept in contact regularly to share progress. She has worked methodically and in a systematic way towards the agreed objectives. We have enjoyed having Cheryl as an intern and some of the research she has undertaken will be very useful for us as a university department going forwards."

Cheryl Wong, a final year student in the Bachelor of Media (Journalism), has been actively involved in extra-curricular experiences alongside her degree. She has been a Student Ambassador and Peer Mentor to fellow students, supported on-campus events such as Open Day, and acted as an event marshal for the Australia Day Parade (to name just a few of her experiences!).

Cheryl believes the Award is “a great opportunity for young professionals to get industry experience, from observing as a volunteer to creating our own projects and putting our knowledge into practice.”

2019 Volunteer Achievement Award

IMG-27 The University of Adelaide.jpg

I first heard about volunteering opportunities at the university while attending the Open Day back in 2017. I couldn’t wait to get started so I started researching opportunities online and applied. Then in April 2018 I was given my first volunteer role helping at the Adelaide Botanic High School Entrance Exams. From there I have volunteered at many events on and off campus and in July 2018 I was provided the opportunity to be an Adelaide Graduate Award Student Ambassador.

I have also helped out at the Children’s University Graduations, Orientation Week and have been an Arts Peer Mentor since May 2019.
